CHILD PROTECTION POLICY

Article 19 of UN Convention:

Child Protection: It is safeguarding of children from violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect which could be intentional or unintentional. Scope of work in line with the standards of other support groups such as UNICEF and the School's Child Protection Commission. Protecting children/students from abuse and maltreatment, preventing harm to children’s health and development. As a responsible member of our community we have to ensure that our students grow up in a safe environment.

Objective of Child Protection Program:
• To prevent cases of child abuse and reduce the number of incidents that take place.
• To deal with the inevitable cases of child abuse.
• Raise awareness of creating a protective school environment.
• Educate children about the role/rights of child protection.
• Work together on this issue and establish effective communication with parents/guardians.
All the students of Young Gemynds International School are aware of their rights as stipulated in the UN Convention on the rights of the child.

Policy procedures to follow:
• Ensure a fair, consistent and robust response to disclosures, suspensions, or allegations.
• Investigate any allegations and implement appropriate sanctions in those cases (immediate action).
• Keep ongoing records / cases confidential and ensure child protection.
• Contact external agencies such as the Mozambique Child Protection Agency and UNICEF to receive the latest information on child protection.
• Child Protection Committee of School.

Objective of this committee are as follows:
• To protect and secure the interest of the students.
• To confirm and report the case.
• Provide mentoring / psychological guidance / counseling to relevant students.
• Create an environment that shows that you are very open about related issues such as abuse, bullying, harassment, and exploitation.
• Be aware of potential child abuse and other related issues.
• Apply an appropriate and unbiased solution.

The Child Protection team is approved by the Directress and School Management. This team is subject to change if any member will no longer be working with Young Gemynds Primary School and Kindergarten.

I hereby confirm, that all members in this team are of sound mental health and will surely contribute positively to the cause of this policy- School Directress.
